Artist's Description
This was done for a show with the theme "Signs of the Times",that opened at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles in April 2021.The theme deals with things that are reflections of the culture in which we live, from literal signs to just the mood of the times. This piece shows a chicken being very undecided about which road to cross.
About Holly Wood
I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My perception of things is expressed in a narrative, story-telling form. The style is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly; sometimes refined, sometimes crude. In recent years I have been moving toward a more Cartoon-Realist approach. I want a simpler look, where I can get the utmost expression out of each line, and each brushstroke expresses energy. My influences range from the scenes of everyday life pictured in the margins of medieval manuscripts, Late Medieval and early Renaissance art, Indian narrative folk painting, classic European Surrealism, Latin American Fantastic Realism and Mexican Social Commentary, comics and graphic novels.
